At SIGIS Child Care Society our mission is to:
Our Program
SIGIS Child Care Society was formed in August of 1994 as a non-profit society. SIGIS Child Care is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which consists of parents, residents of St. Albert, and any other community member interested in quality child care. SIGIS parents are encouraged to participate on the SIGIS Board. Monthly Board/Parent meetings are held and parents are encouraged to attend and have an active role in determining the quality of child care the children receive.
Our Philosophy
SIGIS Child Care Society's program focuses on the highly valued early childhood practice that children learn through play, which can be seen as their "work." It is our belief that children play and "work" with a keen interest in finding out how things work in the real world.
Our program is planned according to the needs and interests of the children, allowing them to be actively engaged with objects and experiences in their everyday environment. We rotate our toys and change our room arrangement on a bi-weekly schedule to ensure that children have a variety of experiences with different toys and equipment.
The children are encouraged to make connections between knowledge and their own world. Creativity and a sense of wonderment are the essential ingredients in the learning process. SIGIS focuses on the fact that the learning process is far more important than any product outcome.
The program offers choices and aims to meet the needs of individual children as well as the community of children. The Early Childhood educators facilitate and support the children's growth as they learn about their world, while ensuring that the physical and emotional safety of all children is not being jeopardized.
SIGIS Child Care believes that a child's work can be purposeful, relevant and rewarding.
